With Mother’s Day coming up fast on the 31st of March, it’s the time to strap on our thinking hats and get to conjuring up the most fanciful gift ideas to tell our mums just why they are the best in the world. But this year, let’s make things a little different and not just get the same candle, same flowers, chocolates or the same card stating:
“To my mother,
It is Mother’s Day. It is a day to celebrate Mothers.
We’re all about thinking outside of the box and we understand how important it is to celebrate special women, especially when it comes to mums.
This year, we’ve found 5 mother’s day gift ideas to tell your mum just why she is the best, without breaking the bank.
1. Give her a call
This seems like an easy one, but in the whirlwind of craziness that comes with day-to-day life, it can often slip our minds that mum hasn’t heard from us in a while. Give her a call when she’s not expecting it, the gift to mum of hearing your voice will be a present enough. Make sure to tell her how thankful you are to have her. It’ll make her heart skip a beat.
2. Cook her favourite meal
We’ve grown up eating mum’s homemade dinners, from experimental cuisine which didn’t always work, to the old reliable staple of bangers and mash. Imagine her delight when she sees her son or daughter in action, chopping like a Japanese sushi chef whilst putting Gordon Ramsay and Nigella Lawson to shame. Go on. Sauté those mushrooms. Fry the asparagus. Own that kitchen and give mum the 5 star restaurant treatment. Just make sure to clean up afterwards.
3. Write her a letter
I’m not of the “cheesy” disposition, but trust me on this one. Sometimes it’s hard to express ourselves when it comes to family. Writing mum a short-but-sweet letter about all of the times you’ve been proud of her, all of the times she’s left you lost for words with her coolheadedness and all of the times you couldn’t have achieved something without her. That’s worth more than an overpriced box of chocolates.
4. DIY around the house
Mums are renowned to be super busy. On a daily basis she might pass by broken drawers in the hallway, ponder on the daunting task of decluttering the shed, or pine for a brighter living room without having the time to do any of them. Get your toolbox out and fix the drawers, fight with the enormous, prickly spiders in the shed, or whack on your overalls and get those walls looking like heaven with a lick of paint. Let mum put her feet up. Oh, and get making her favourite cocktail while you’re at it.
5. Get mum a personalised book
Don’t get me wrong, flowers and chocolates are O.K. The problem with flowers, though? They wither, the petals fall, and they have to be thrown out. The problem with chocolates? They get eaten. Sometimes by the dog, which could mean an unwanted visit to the vet. A personalised book with each page bespoke to mum, where you can add photos, personal messages and more? That’s priceless.

However you decide to spend Mother’s Day and whatever you decide to get for your mum, make sure that you make her feel special with a unique gift. Let her take the weight off and celebrate how well she has done to create you and to make you the person you are today.
