Let’s talk about December birthdays

December! It’s a tinsel-strewn, winter wonderland of a birthday month.

December birthdays are a bonus celebration at what’s already proven to be “the most wonderful time of the year”. People are well and truly in a party mood with Christmas just an Advent calendar’s countdown away. Trees are being decorated, presents are being wrapped, wine is being mulled. Everyone is in the spirit (and probably a novelty Christmas jumper).

Nice one December folk, you are the definition of festivity fun!

What does it mean to be born in December? Are Decemberoos more likely to look the business wearing a paper crown? Do they stand out from the rest of the year crowd with their ability to generate festive cheer?

Let’s take a look!

What kind of people are born in December?

Depending when they are born in the month December babies are either sure-shooting Sagittarians or fleet-footed Capricorns. That explains why all the Decemberians you know are either dab hands at sinking pool trick shots in or the first to sign up to a hiking holiday in the mountains.

December birthstones are tanzanite, turquoise, and zircon (the oldest mineral on earth). All three are best known as being stones of brilliant blue. Kind of an appropriate colour for the month that people most associate with snow and ice.

Here’s a curious tidbit you might not know, since 1992 six of the ten people with the biggest business card collectors in the world are all December folk. Cool right?

I guess that’s explained by the fact that Decembellinas are prone to being very organised. They can’t help themselves. Being born in one of the busiest times of the year gives them admin skills that make accountants jealous.

But don’t get me wrong, they know how to have a good time too. To offset their rigidly organised personality they also have a reckless streak. They need it to be willing to make a record breaking time down the biggest local hill during sledge races.

The secret to their speed demon skills? Sports scientists say it all comes down to the fact that Decemberlings have a faster average sprint than the rest of us. Amongst the experts this turn of speed is known as the “First to the Christmas tree dash”.

Which famous people were born in December?

Frank Sinatra, one of the most famous crooners of all time, was born in December. Did that mean he was destined to be a truly great carol singer? Almost certainly!

And plenty of other well known folk from throughout history were born in the last month of the year. From musicians including Beethoven and Taylor Swift, to Pope Francis and Nostradamus (who was famously able to accurately predict what he was getting for Christmas every year, without fail).

Given that winter is a perfect time for curling up with a good film, it seems fitting that Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg were both born in December too.

What’s it like to celebrate your birthday in December?

December birthdays are tricky. It’s the most wonderful time of the year and people are all geared up for a month full of festivities. On the other hand though, there is so much going on that people can get celebration fatigue.

December’s children typically deal with this in one of two ways.

The first group figure that if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em. They select an already planned event to partner up with for their birthday. Make the wrong choice though and you could end up spending your 21st birthday at the office do talking about annual turnover.

The second group are more ambitious. They see December’s party-heavy calendar as a challenge and set out each year to hold a bash so spectacularly fun that only the meanest of Scrooges could possibly turn down an invite.
